Collection Obsession! Vintage Aprons!
This is me last week wearing one of my vintage aprons. My mother-in-law gave this to me for Christmas in 2008. It is a multi-tiered, light voile cotton design that is edged with blue stitching. I have several others ranging from red and white checker print, floral, paisley with chiffon, and even a few black chiffon "hostess" aprons.
(In the photo, I am sorry about the two faint black marks under the mirror above my fireplace! Someone (that I love dearly) decided to light candles and then left them too close to the brick facade!)
I mostly wear my aprons for cooking and baking. I also have a few smock-style aprons that I wear for cleaning house. I sometimes worry about getting stains on them because I know they cannot be replaced. I have found that spot-cleaning stains with Shout Pens, handwashing the apron in the sink, and laying it flat to dry is a great method to help preserve its longevity.
The next step in my apron obsession saga is to learn how to make them using vintage or repro fabric. My mother-in-law gave me a few vintage apron patterns that I have been wanting to try. I have been learning to sew on a machine lately and I have been doing easy projects like cafe curtains and pillow covers. I think making an apron is going to be fun and once I get the 'hang of' that, I want to try making actual clothes!
So, in the realm of all things vintage, what do you like to collect?
What don't I collect?? As far as vintage goes, I'm an apron addict as well (although I'm not above buying a cute retro style new apron if it calls to me!) Right now I seem to be all about 40's and 50's shoes - I scored 3 pair yesterday (all in my size!) for a song. I love wearing a touch of vintage to work (I'm a teacher)whether it's a dress, sweater, some knock out shoes or just some funky jewelry! And lucky me - my daughter is following right in my vintage footsteps!
