New Hair Color!

This is me, with my allergy eyes and new hair color!

I had the color (a dark brown) done by my amazing stylist of 5 years, Corry, last Thursday. I have been red with blond and just red (I go back and forth) for two years and I thought it was time to change things up! I have not been brunette since 2002. I have been pink, black, platinum blonde,  blonde with black underneath, and even purple! But I have to admit I have a preference for the dark shades of color!

So, what do you gals think?

And, what color of hair (or colors) have you been?

  1. Oh I love it! It looks fabulous Tara :D
Alas I'm naturally super blonde, so dying my hair dark has never been an option without *a lot* of upkeep. I had it bluish black in high school for about 6 months, but I had to dye the roots on a weekly basis or the grow out would make me look like I was going bald. Otherwise I've had brown, red, and pink on just the underhalf. I would like to try red this year! But I require new non-red glasses first ;)

    1. Thanks, Rueby!

I was bluish black for about a year. I loved it but since my natural hair color is a level 7/8 with neutral tones, I had to do my roots every two weeks!

I was a strawberry blonde as a child and my color turned a bit coppery as I aged. Now in my late 30s, it's the level 7 with no warm tones.

I like red but I wanted a change! Red is fun though!

  2. Looks fabulous! I have been red, orange (think pumpkin) and blond. I have been itching to go pink.
Have you tried some allergy eye drops for those eyes? I know bausch and lomb makes some it can really help with the itchy red eye.

    1. Thank you! I had pink hair in 2009 but making sure my wardrobe matched was hard! I wore lots of pink, black, dee blue, purple, etc.

As for my allergies, I am on Allegra. I need to ask my doctor about drops for the redness since the Allegra doesn't seem to remedy it!

  3. Love the locks darling! I tend to stay in the dark brown shades. Although way back in nursing school I was under a lot of stress and went platinum blonde, or at least tried to. What a bad, bad, bad idea!
I have had multiple colored "highlights" through the years; pink, aqua, purple, red and royal blue.
Currently, I am all dark. I know very boring especially with Viva just around the corner! Oh well, it just feels right at the present.
Maybe I'll run into you amongst the crowds in Vegas. That would be lovely!

    1. Thank you for the compliment! I was once platinum blonde too but it wrecked my hair!

I love the dark brown shades too! I am having fun with it! I think it looks striking on so many skintones!

If you think your color is boring (I bet it's lovely) just add a hair flower (or two) and do a vintage set and presto, fabulousness!!

I hope to see you at Viva too! I am trying to do a few meet ups!

  4. You look totally GORGEOUS Tara. I love your new hair color.
I prefer dark shades too. I only did blonde streaks once or twice in my teens but both times ended up not liking it and dying it back to dark a few weeks later.

I have dyed my hair countless colors since about 13 or 14.

Bright red (Ariel little mermaid), Dark purple, Black indigo (One of my favorites), Blonde streaks, Burgundy Red, Orangey (Didn't work too well) & Black

    1. THank you!! I was getting bored of the blond streaks. I found myself going back and forth between all over red to red with streaks for two years and I think the dark brunette is a good way to go.

I was once bright red too in 2009! It was fun but the upkeep and dressing for the color were hard. I have been every color but green and blue!

  5. I love your new colour, it really suits you. Well I have been many colours from black to platinum. However I've been one of many shades of red for about 20+ years now, not sure I'll be changing now. I will never go natural, I am a sorry shade of mousy brown!!

    1. Thank you, Fiona!! I adore the red color on you for sure! It totally suits your skintone! My hair color was once a natural light copper but as I got older the warm tones faded and my natural color now is a pale taupe.

  6. I LIKE IT! It really really goes with your skin tones. Just one question...I go to Hair Studio 54 and they always tell me they have another client who likes retro clothes and hair, it's a guy named Corry.....could you be that girl? My stylist there is Jessie. They always talk about you (that other vintage girl) when I go in there

    1. Thank you for the compliment!

This is too much!!! I AM the "other vintage girl!" lol! Corry also told me about the "other retro client" and I now know that is you! Talk about uncanny!

Jesi is so sweet! I love her style!

I have been Corry's client since 2007 and he has taken me from red, Special Effects Atomic Pink, platinum blond with black underneath, Special Effects Devilish, black, back to red, and now dark brunette. He also does my Middy cut and Bettie bangs.

I also get my brows waxed and tinted there too. Gina is amazing!

Do you live in the area?

  7. The new color looks lovely! Like the comment above, I'm never going back to my natural mousy tresses. I've been blonde, which looked awful, black with green highlights (which was better than the blonde), had purple streaks, and now I'm a redhead for life. I've always been envious of ladies like you who look good with so many different hair colors!

    1. Thank you! I wish my natural color was my childhood shade of pale red but as I have gotten older, the warm tones have faded completely. My hair looks like taupe!

I bet the black with green highlights was cool!

  8. I love it! My personal favorite shade for me is a deep dark brown just a few shades darker than my natural color. I've been red but never blonde nor anything else more exciting (which would require going blonde first anyways.)

    1. Thank you!! I think dark brown is just gorgeous on so many skintones! It reminds me of dark chocolate!

I was blue black for a year but it was a bit too stark against my super pale MAC NW15 skintone and the upkeep was constant (my roots had to be covered every two-three weeks).

I was also once a bright candy red and yes, it required 30/40 volume bleach to process. The color also turned my shower pink! I was always using Tilex to keep it free of pink-red stains! lol!

  9. I love the dark color on you! I've had black hair for years but I used to have blood red. Too much upkeep for me!!

    1. Thank you, Holly! I love the black on you! It is perfect and totally striking!

I was bright Special Effects Devilish (super bright cartoon red) and the upkeep was crazy! First bleach was used to lighten and then the color was applied. Took forever at the salon and the color faded quick!

  10. Bloody hell I wish my allergy eyes looked that good!

I like the new hair colour a lot. :-)

I have been all shades of blonde known to man, ginger (which was a terrible mistake and looked awful)and various shades of red-brown.

    1. My eyes are so irritated since the warm weather is making all the pollen go extra extra this year! I am on allergy meds but I think I need drops for my eyes! I often look shagged out and blood-shot! Not a good look! lol!

I was platinum blond in 2006 and I liked it but it was hell on my hair and I think the color made me look even more pale! I think I am better-suited for contrasting color.

  12. It looks great! Beware, that is how I became black headed. It started with platinum, then red and platinum, then dark brown and platinum, then dark brown to black. Now I can never go back, but I don't want to ;-)

    1. Thanks, Kim!!

When I was first blackin 2009, I kept it for a year or so. Then I went back to red, slowly. My stylist had to use two rounds of Eliminate to strip the black from my hair. Despite the two applications, my hair still had a lot of dark tones in it.

I am frankly over my red (at least for a while). I wanted a big change and after a week, I LOVE it!

The black color is gorgeous on you! BTW, I cannot wait to see you next week! One week!! Whoo-hoo!

  14. Really suits you - I think you have that kind of face and skin tone that suits all hair colors! I've been (mainly!) red for 15 years now and I know its what suits me best having been lots of other colors before that, but if you can get away with it - why the hell not eh?! :)

  15. I love the color! It suits you very well. I was a towhead as a kid, and have experimented with everything from candy-apple red to florescent blue to raven black. I've been black now for years, and I think if I wanted to change the color I'd have to shave my head and start over! (Years of black dye would be torture to try and reverse).

I love your blog and enjoy reading it and seeing all the amazing looks you put together.
