Just for Fun: Go Ahead and Ask me Anything!

Simply because I cannot think of anything to post about, I thought I would open a forum where you can ask me anything related to vintage clothing, makeup, hair color, hair care, or vintage home design.

If you have a question about where to buy vintage, or have a query about vintage sizing or fabric care, ask! If you want to know about what lipstick colors/brands are good for creating a vintage face, ask me! If you want to know what eyeshadows are great for creating the 40s eye, I can help!

This is intended to be an informative and fun post so feel free to post questions if you have 'em!

  1. Oh, me first! I am in the middle of writing a post about vintage closets and love hearing how others organize. SO- How do you organize your vintage items? I am especially interested in clothes and hats.

  2. I have a walk-in closet. First, I organize my dresses by day and special occasion. I keep my house dresses, shirtwaists, button downs, and career styles on one side and next to them, I have my special occasion or cocktail wear.

My separates like blouses, cardigans, sweaters, skirts, and pants are hung on the on the opposite side of the closet, across from my dresses. Each category ( i.e. blouse, cardigan, skirt, etc) has its own section. If I want to wear a cardigan, they are all grouped together so I can pick quickly. I am always running late in the morning! lol

My vintage hats, what few I have, are kept in a big box I had a coat in. I keep my hats wrapped in tissue paper so they are not crushed. I have a proper hat box that holds a 50s, wide-brim, black wool day hat.

  3. That sounds awesome. Sigh- I wish I had a walk-in closet! Actually I decided to do a vintage closet inspiration giveaway because of the question I asked you- http://tartdeco.blogspot.com/2010/10/vintage-closet-and-boudoir-giveaway.html

You should enter your closet ;)

  4. I'm terrible at thinking of questions, and actually it's early morning and I don't 'do' mornings! However what I wanted to say was I do envy you US ladies and your walk in closets! They don't exist in the UK, well unless you are rich or convert a room into one - which I have kind of eek! I stayed in an apartment in Pasadena for a couple of months once and my favourite things was the walk in closet, I didn't care for the pool, the walk in closet had my vote ;o)

  5. Do you decorate vintage style for Christmas? I know it's early but I am already thinking of Christmas - I love it for the food, the music, and the decorations!

  6. Hosanna,

I do a mix of traditional and 50s atomic-era style, especially for my tree. My mother-in-law gave me a few vintage 50s and 60s decorations, including these neat silver and tinsel discs that click onto the mini lights on the tree. My parents also gave me decorations like these:

I have my eye on a few metal starburst decorations that are on Etsy right now. I would love to have a vintage pink or blue fake tree! How cool would that be?!

I would also like some Christmas party goods like cocktail glasses and platters. I am slowly building my collection and I am excited that Christmas will be here soon!
