This me after getting home from work last night! It was really cold! I am wearing a black angora beret I bought at Urban Outfitters for 10.00 USD about 10 years ago. I have barely worn this hat until recently. I really like the way it looks on and it pairs nicely with a lot of my 40s and 50s clothing styles.
It has been in the low-mid 30s here in the DC Metro Region for a few days and apparently, my weather "boyfriend" Doug Hill of local ABC affiliate WJLA said that the region is in for more cold temperatures. There is even a slight chance for snow on Sunday into Monday. If the area does get snow, I suspect it will not be much. But any amount, big or small, is good to me!
Since it has been so bone-chilling cold, I have invested two more berets that I bought on Etsy.
One is made with red wool:
And here is a black, hand-knit "bubble" beret:
I have not received the red beret yet but I got the black one last week. I love it! I especially like the little 'bubbles' all over it! Too cute! The yarn is super soft and keeps my head very warm!
I like berets not only for their look and warmth but also for their ease of wear! I can be lazy with my hair! I simply style and flat iron my Bettie bangs, put on my beret, secure it with a few bobby pins, and I am out the door.
So, do you gals wear winter headwear? What are your faves?

OOOh that black one is really unique! Love it. Is it called popcorn stitch or something? I've seen purses like it but never a hat! LOVE!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute! I love berets, but I NEVER wear them. Maybe I should.
ReplyDeleteOoh lovely, is there a link to the Etsy sellers you could share?
ReplyDeleteI don't need an excuse to wear a hat! That black one looks lovely...
ReplyDeleteI love berets too! They're so classic and very easy to find. I have a black, pink and gray one all from thrift stores. My gray one always reminds me of Marilyn in How to Marry a Millionaire, when she was on the plane.
ReplyDeleteTrixie,
ReplyDeleteThe black one is cute and so well made! It does have a spiral-like popcorn stitch! I only know the terminology because my mom and aunts knit! I wish I could! I tried to learn but I am all "thumbs" and whatever I try to make looks like a tangled mess!lol
Michelle,
ReplyDeleteI usually only wear vintage hats for special events like weddings, nights out, cocktail parties etc. But when I discovered the beret in my closet, I felt inspired to buy some more styles.
Lisa,
ReplyDeleteHere is the link for the Etsy store where I got the black bubble beret:

Gingeyginge,
ReplyDeleteI am normally just a snood gal but lately I have discovered how wonderfully hats can complete a look!
The timing of this post is so weird! I've always loved berets, but I have never actually owned one until I randomly saw one at Ross this last weekend. I guess we're hat twins this week
ReplyDeleteBrittany,
ReplyDeleteThe gray beret sounds divine! I love that movie too! I ADORE Marilyn's eyeglasses! I want them so bad! I have an obsession for vintage eyewear big time!
P.S. I forgot to mention how much I love the bubble one you found
ReplyDeleteBetty2tone,
ReplyDeleteThat is uncanny! I guess we are "hat twins!" lol! I had my angora beret for so long and it just was stored away in a closet. I was going through my winter accessories a while back and I found the beret and this week it has been getting a workout due to all the cold weather! So, what does your beret look like?
It's just the most totally basic black kind. I almost got a purple one but I figured black would go with more stuff
ReplyDeleteYou look adorable in that hat! I don't own any berets, but they really go well with vintage looks from the 40's to the 60's...
ReplyDeleteMy new favorite winter hat is a Kangol/Made in England 1960's (I think) turban style hat, in a nice fuzzy soft brown. It covers my ears, which is important when the weather gets down into the teens or below!
Hey, just wanted to let you know that I am doing a 100-follower Giveaway right now, for two winners! Might be something that interests you. :-)
i looooovve your berret!! i never had a angora one! i have tooons of wools ones...hmmm ..got to get one!! :D
ReplyDeleteI adore berets!
ReplyDeleteI don't own any berets and in fact rarely wear hats, I have VERY thick hair and they need pinning on so much that it's not great. However it's been so cold in the UK recently that even I have had to wear a hat, sadly not as stylish as a beret but very warm!
ReplyDeleteYou look lovely! I love berets as well, I wear them as often as I can remember. I never think about throwing a hat on, which i'm trying to work on! I just discovered your blog, i'll be sticking around! (o:
ReplyDeleteThanks for the compliment, Susan! My angora beret is a Kangol too! I got it on sale at Urban Outfitters for 10.00 USD about 10 years ago! I am actually wearing the red wool one today and it fits so well! I will be sure to check out your giveaway too!
ReplyDeleteMiss Amethyst,
ReplyDeleteI lucked out on my super cheap angora beret! It goes with so many things! I am wearing the red knit one and I can see it getting lots of use this winter!
I love berets,it's one of the few styles of hats i can wear(hats generally look weird on me sadly)You look totally gorgeous in yours & the 2 you bought off etsy are just devine!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the compliment and comments, Autumn! Great to have you here!
ReplyDeleteMrs. Cleaver,
