The Baby Cut- Part Three

This is my third (and more than likely final) post detailing my saga with the Baby haircut. My stylist gave me the cut about a month ago and so far, I really like it! I had some trouble with styling in the beginning, but now I have finally started to get the "hang of it."

I have found that pin curls done on mostly dry hair and/or hot rollers are the best methods. If I shower at night, I blow dry my hair using a small 1 inch barrel brush and then I pin curl using proper pin curl clips. I secure pins by wrapping a scarf around my head before I go to sleep. In the morning, I simply take the clips out and fluff with a wide tooth comb first and then smooth the look with a barrel brush. I spray my hair with a light hairspray, like Elnett or Sebastian Zero, put in a few bobby pins and a hair flower, and I am out the door.

If I shower in the morning, I blow dry and then use hot rollers. Temperamental Broad recommended Remington's Tight Curls set and I am so thankful for her amazing suggestion! Even though Remington discontinued (of course) these rollers, I found them on eBay.

When I use the hot rollers, I roll the front and sides of my hair (forward from my ears), towards my face and I roll the rest down from my part. With the curlers in, I make breakfast, iron the husband's shirt for the day, feed the kitty, and make lunch to take to the office. After 45 minutes or so, I take the curlers out and I brush my hair with my barrel brush. I secure my look with hairspray, bobby pins and complete the whole enchilada with one of my beloved hair flowers.

So, this is how it looks now. The following pictures were taken last Thursday at home after a long day at the office.

This is how it looks in the back:

I am enjoying my vintage hair and I cannot wait until it grows out! I want to have a Middy Plus one of these days but my hair grows slow. I also would love to do a pony tail and have faux bangs.

What are your preferred styles and styling methods?

  1. Love this sytle! If I had any balls I would cut my hair shorter and have a baby too! I just cut a Middy Long this weekend and I lOVE IT! I need to play around with it a bit and add pictures.

  2. Your hair looks amazing! I dont have the patience for doing my hair like this, though I love the end result. I have long very straight hair. I mostly wear my hair up, with a bandana tied rockabilly style with the bow at the top and blow roll my fringe (bangs). I work from home so this is the best and easiest thing for me. When I go out, I put victory rolls in the sides and either french roll the back, or put two twist pin curls up the back. I really need to experiment more!

  3. Very cute style! I really have no patience for my hair but admire those who do.

I have a friend who does amazing hair and has helped me with mine(like the whole time at Viva), but she lives in California so I'm usually on my own. Generally I straighten my hair and let it hang down or else wear it up ala Gidget. If I'm going out I might do a pompadour or some victory rolls but I never get that creative, although that is a habit I'd like to break! My hair is really fine and breaks easily, but there is a ton of it. And it is un-uniformly wavey so it's a real pain to work with. And I guess I'm not what you would call a morning person... If I give myself 15 minutes to get ready in the morning I call it an early day!

  4. I'm glad the Tight Curls are working out! My hairs a bit too long right now for them (Hot Sticks work great but I still have to use 2 sets of them). I've been so lazy lately that I haven't done anything with my hair. Well I did cut my baby bangs back but thats cuz I've been too lazy to do my front roll. Lol!

  5. Miss Dollie,

I bet your Middy long is lovely! I cannot wait for my hair to grow out more so I can do more styles. I am enjoying my Baby cut but I would love to be able to do a high pony tail, especially on days I am feeling lazy.

  6. Dolly Cool Clare,

I am jealous you have long hair that you can work with. I bet your rolls look fabulous too!

I do love my Baby but I want my lengths longer so I can do more styles. I can do smaller victory rolls and a pompadour now but I cannot wait to do faux bangs and bigger rolls. I am having fun with my hair ever since I got the cut. The cut really is vital for doing proper vintage styles.

  7. Holly,

Yes, thanks again and again for suggesting the tight curls set! I am loving them! But, I have accidentally broken two of the original clips the set came with. However, my BFF told me that I can get replacement clips that fit most curlers at Sally's. I was so ticked when I heard the plastic snap in two as I tried to secure the clip onto one of my rollers!

I, too, was tempted to cut my bangs into Bettie bangs again but I decided not to. I had bettie bangs for about 2 and a half years. I loved them but since I cannot cut in a straight line to save my life, I had to visit my stylist every two weeks for a bang trim. I also like the versatility of my longer bangs. They just need to be a little bit longer to do faux bangs. They are in an odd 'in between' stage right now.

Also, I think your hair and makeup always looks flawless! I am so jealous! :)

  8. Nicole,

My hair is fine too. I get that trait from both my parents. I have an average amount of hair. I find that hot or steam rollers are gentle. Air drying and then using the curlers have proved to be a good method of styling while being kind to my hair. I will blow dry too but I try to keep it to a minimum.

Rag curls using strips of cotton are a great way to style hair without damage and they are super comfy to sleep on. I cannot do rag curls now since my hair is a bit too short to wrap around the rag but longer hair will do great with this method.
