Receiving Defective Merchandise! TUK Kitty Shoe Letdown

For about three years, I have wanted a pair of TUK "kitty face" mary janes. I love the kitty face on the front! There is even a black kitty tail on the back of the heel! How cute is that?! As a rockabilly "crazy cat lady" and TUK fan, I thought these shoes would just be perfect with either rolled jeans or red pencil skirt paired with a black turtleneck and a 50s plaid 49er jacket.

Earlier this week, I finally went on Endless.com and ordered a pair of kitty shoes! They were only 38.00 USD and they were available in my size 7! Well, today I received my shoes and as I excitedly opened the box, I noticed one of the straps looked a bit weird. Upon closer inspection, I saw that the back of the strap was totally cracked!
I am so disappointed! I mean, just look at that strap! These shoes have never been worn and yet this strap looks decrepit! I feel like if I try to buckle it, it could snap in half! I examined the other strap and it looks great. Talk about frustrating!

Despite my huge shoe letdown, I am thankful Endless.com has a great return policy and free returns. I also like how you can go to their site and print out a UPS label and simply tape it to your return and drop it off at your local UPS facility.

Since these shoes were defective, I hope Endless can replace them. If not, I just want my money back!

So, in the spirit of my shoe saga today, have any of you ever had a defective item experience?

  1. I've had my share of defective purchases. For some reason, it always seems to be shoes or fabric. The last time, it was a pair of Patagonia camp shoes. They had a removable rubber outer sole with a strap, and the first time I put them on, the strap snapped clean off. And of course, they're discontinued, so I have my money back but am still not really satisfied.

And the fabric-- oy. 25 yards of handkerchief linen that turned out to be dry-rotted.

  2. I love when companies offer free return shipping. Havnt had any defective purchases but did order a dress from a seller from china on ebay and he sent me a blazer then demanded i show a photo as proof and pay for return shipping which would be refunded upon them receiving the blzer back...lesson learned. No more buying from china

Those are really cute shoes. I hope you can exchange them!!

  3. Kate,

That is a shame about the shoes! Patagonia is usually a very good quality brand! I guess anything can happen. But dry-rotted linen. Wow. I once ordered a black onyx and sterling pendant from ebay and the seller sent me a rock. I am not kidding. I e-mailed them and let them know and they told me they sent me a "shaman stone" by mistake. Hmmm. They went on to say that they would send me the pendant but never did. I was nice enough to send back their rock but I never got my pendant. I kept asking for my pendant's whereabouts via e-mail but they never responded. When I decided to leave them negative feedback, they claimed I was unreasonable and that I "leave negative feedback without warning." Oh, I gave them plenty of chances and they cry foul. Lame!

  4. Trixie, your dress story sounds like my rock for a pendant story! I ordered a pendant off ebay and the seller sent me a rock. I was reasonable and gave them plenty of time to remedy the situation but they never sent my merchandise. My shoes are ready to go back to the UPS location by my house. I am dropping them off tomorrow. I hope I can get them in my size again and also a pair that is not defective!

  7. Just in case you can't get another pair from that first site, they have those same shoes here: http://www.daddyos.com/retro/shoe.html I have had the same pair, only in all black forever, and they're greeeat shoes

  8. I've had similar problems with my Tuk shoes... with both pairs (they didn't have any damage when I bought them) the strap eventually snapped off completely. And always when I was in a rush too!

  9. Laura,

I almost bought the black pair but the white and black looked so cute! Both are cute however. I just have a weakness for black and white! I first noticed the shoes on Daddyos a few years ago! I just wish they weren't damaged. I hope the next pair will be better!

  10. Emma,

That is a shame that the shoes seem to have this defect! I can understand cracking after some wear but to see it straight out of the box is just crazy! I have had a nice pair of wedges snap (the straps) on me and I was in a rush too! lol! Isn't that always the way?

  13. My latest shoe let down was buying a pair of remix used off ebay. they were brand new and I had been lusting after them on the remix website so I couldn't resist when I saw them for half the price on ebay. I got them and it was a no go they are way too tight. I have 3 pairs of remix shoes in the same size that fit just fine. Not sure if they have changed their sizing or what but of course it was a no return seller (honestly I can't blame the seller I knew I was taking a chance) it was just disappointing to spend $80 and not get to wear them.

  14. I've been pretty lucky, but I'll put my defence in for the retailers. I have sent defective stuff before because of course you can't examine and open every item to check it, otherwise you'd never get anything sent out. However I do of course refund immediately when something is defective!

So really I'm just saying it can happen, and as long as the retailer is ok with refunded, it's just one of those things, we assume that when items are dispatched to us from manufacturers that they are not defective, sadly it's not always the case :o(

However there's no excuse from ebay sellers!!

  16. Living Vintage,

That is a shame! I have three pairs of Re-mix shoes and they are all amazing. Maybe the shoes ran small and/or narrow. I know that in some brands I am a 6.5 and in most I am a 7. For example, when I was in Vegas last March, I tried on a cute pair of black patent size 7 wedges and they were a bit big. So, I bought a 6.5 thinking they would be perfect. I got back to my hotel and tried on the shoes before going out and they were so tight! The difference between the two sizes was incredible! I brought them back the next day.

  17. Fiona,

I concede that inspecting every piece of merchandise would be impossible and therefore could impede shipping. It was just frustrating and just a bother and in the end, nothing serious. By the way, Endless.com already sent my replacement shoes today! When I submitted my online exchange/defective merchandise information last night, I guess Endless immediately sent out a new pair! When I got home from the salon this morning, I saw a box on my doorstep. I was floored when I opened the box and saw the new shoes! This new pair is flawless and I am very pleased. Endless is a fabulous company!
