Wedges Shoes ala Carmen Miranda! Free People "Daisy" Wedges

I recently received a Free People catalog in my mail. As I flipped through the pages, I spotted these wooden soled wedged and I instantly fell in shoe lust! These wedges make me long for warm summer days or even a tropical getaway! They retail for $168.00 USD. Here is the link:

These shoes come in black, blue with red bows, and in cheetah print. I am torn between the blue and the black. But I can see myself getting more use out the black pair since black goes nicely with most outfits!  These shoes are very 40s vintage-inspired and they remind me of Carmen Miranda!
I am so jealous of that shoe collection! Oh, what I would do to be able to go back in time and browse Carmen's closet!

Even though I love winter, I am ready to start thinking about my spring/summer wardrobe.

So, with Viva around the corner and the warmer months approaching, what clothing/shoe/accessories are you hankering for?

  1. Those are so cute! I've always wanted to be Carmen Miranda for Halloween at some point

  2. Aren't those just divine? I want them but 168.00 is a bit high. I hope they go on sale soon! I look at those shoes and I want to go to the Caribbean!

  3. Wowsers! Those are some stunning shoes! My "wish-I-coulds" right now are a pair of ReMix wedges, and a pair of those adorable wooden Hawaiian souvenir sandals, and perhaps a nice white sand beach to wear them on. And some sunshine.

  4. Too bad they don't come in solid red, then you could make fruity shoe clips for them!

Summer months make me hanker for excessive amounts of coral makeup more than anything else, as if I didn't do that year-round.

BTW, did a shout-out to you in a recent post! http://bit.ly/ec7k7y

  5. Kate,

If you have worn Re-mix shoes before, you know how wonderful they are when it comes to vintage styling and comfort! I have two pairs of remix wedges and one pair of wooden soled Hollywood stilettos. They are so worth the price! The staff are so kind and wonderful when it comes to answering questions! I am a winter fanatic but a trip to Aruba or Jamaica would be perfect right now! I was in Boca for Thanksgiving and the temperatures were in the low 80s the entire trip!

  6. Erin,

Thank you for the "shout out!" I really appreciate it! I have to agree that those wedges in red would be amazing! As for coral makeup, MAC has two coral-tinged lipsticks that are summer staples for me: Vegas Volt and Neon Orange. Both are super bright orange-corals that scream summer!

  7. You better believe I have Vegas Volt in my collection, along with most of the LE corals they've come out with lately. I know Neon Orange is a pro-color though, so I've never swatched it. I'm a big fan of Crosswires - have you eve tried it?

  8. Erin,

That is awesome that you have Vegas Volt! I love it and I bought it when the Raquel Welch Collection came out in 2007. Neon Orange is indeed a Pro shade but Morange is pretty much Neon Orange yet it's just a touch less bright. I have not tried Crosswires yet but I do have my eye on the new Kissable Lipcolor in Exxhibitionist (a bright intense coral). It is part of the new Peacocky Collection that just came out and the Kissable Lipcolors are basically intensely pigmented liquid lipsticks.

  9. I love them! I'm hankering for some more polly's. Also, got my eye out for more 1950s sundresses, atomic type print. I believe you can never have to many cute dresses!

  11. So cute! I'm going to check out Re-mix shoes again, since you said they are comfortable. I'm way past my time of suffering for beauty!

  12. Eeek, gorgeous! Dark blue would surely go with most print dresses? Though I guess it really depends on what is already in your wardrobe x

  13. I'm a sucker for wood shoes but I always feel like im walking weird since they are so unforgiving.

  14. Fabulous shoes, but that pic of Carmen Miranda makes me drool at her collection, I bet she was my size shoe too, she was only a little lady wasn't she?!

  15. Andi,

I love these shoes for their look and because they are leather-free! They are made with velvet and wood!

  16. Tikimama,

Re-Mix shoes are very comfortable and very vintage-looking! I never had a pair that hurt my feet! Their platform wedgies are especially amazing when it comes to comfort!

  17. Penny,

I agree about the blue color! Navy goes with a lot of things too! Even cheetah print pairs well with many colors but I find myself drawn to the black velvet. All I need is a tropical destination and a 40s sundress!

  18. Brook,

I agree. The wooden sole does not give and I sometimes feel like I am walking like Frankenstein, especially if the shoe is really tall. But, if the shoe is adjustable, ie the ankle straps, walking is a bit easier.

  19. Fiona,

I think Carmen was indeed tiny! Imagine her small frame and those high wooden shoes! Too cute! I am only 5'3 so high heels are a must! lol! I just look at that vintage photo and I want to take all those shoes and run!

  20. Gabriella,

They are wedge-tastic for sure! I wish they came in solid red. I have a pair of red wedges that I bought in 2006 and they have been repaired many times but now the sole is staring to separate from the body of the shoe itself. So, by the time summer is upon us, I would like to have a new pair of red wedges to wear with sundresses, circle skirts, and playsuits.
