Tip for Using Hair Combs, Circa 1943!

I was browsing Etsy.com today (I know, I know! I need to be good!) for 1940s NOS (new old stock) and I found a listing for a vintage 1943 hair comb. One of the pictures from the item description features the back of the card!

I love that we get to see different ways to use combs! I like the style that shows the combs decorated with small flowers!

I have two vintage combs my mother-in-law gave me but until now, I have never knew how to properly use them. I mostly use bobby pins and lots of hairspray. This is exciting!

I am going to experiment tonight for sure!

  1. Thanks for sharing this pic! I always wondered how to use combs also. The image really helps me to figure out how some of those glam 40's styles were created!

  2. You are welcome, Brittany! And thanks for the comments!

The picture on the top far left shows how a comb can being used to secure a front roll, ie a pompadour. I did this today and the comb really holds hair in place well! Also, I didn't need to use bobby pins so there were no pins sticking out! If done correctly, the comb really blends in well and cannot be seen (unless you really look).
